Annual Bench Talk aims to raise $50K

Employees of the Downtown Mission and community members are spending 24 hours outside to raise money and awareness for the shelter.

Organizers hope the annual Bench Talk raises $50,000.

"We are blessed today, it's a gorgeous day, so we won't fully experience what someone who may be experiencing homelessness in the dead of winter might experience. But we're trying to bring awareness to the fact that there are people who maybe don't have a home to go to when it's cold or raining, and they depend on services like the mission," said Executive Director Rukshini Ponniah-Goulin.

The funds will go toward operating the shelter, along with the foodbank and the Windsor Youth Centre.

Ponniah-Goulin is encouraging online donations as they have seen a decline in funds since the start of the Canada Post strike.
