Shake the Lake donates $66K to WRH

A summer boating event in honour of two men who lost their lives on the water last year raised over $66,000 for Windsor Regional Hospital's trauma program.

The Shake the Lake Fun Run was held in July on Lake St. Clair in honour of Shawn King and Brian Modde, who died on November 16th, 2024.

King and Modde held similar events in past years to raise money for different community groups.

'It's through that grief that we really found our why as a family and as a committee to continue honour their memory and plan this event, carry on this event, and continue to give back even after this very tragic event," said Kaitlyn King, sister-in-law to Shawn King.

The funds raised will improve the technology available to nurses and physicians in the Ouellette Campus trauma bays.

"We're going to be purchasing some equipment that's going to really help monitor trauma patients in a 360-degree view around the trauma bay in the Emergency Department. so that all of the staff there that is taking care of the patient have the opportunity to see everything that they need to see that's relevant for their role," said Jonathan Foster Vice President of Emergency Services.

The emergency department sees an average of 500 trauma cases a year.
