Three charged with defrauding a Windsor bank of $210K

Windsor police say three people have been charged with engaging in an elaborate scheme to rip off a financial institution.

Investigators first received a complaint from a local bank in November 2022. The Financial Crimes Unit eventually learned that the suspects conspired to deposit fake cheques, withdraw money, and falsify bank drafts.

Shortly after noon on Tuesday, officers from the OPP-led Provincial Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad arrested a 48-year-old man at a home on Letino Drive in Belle River.

The other two suspects, a 37-year-old man and a 26-year-old man, turned themselves in to Windsor police headquarters.

All three are charged with fraud over $5,000, laundering criminal proceeds, conspiracy to commit fraud, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

The charges have not been proven in court.
