Stiles vows to fight for Ontario workers

NDP Leader Marit Stiles is in Windsor this week ahead of the Ontario Legislature opening Monday, vowing to fight for workers in the auto sector and trades.

She spoke at the 68th Annual Convention of the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario.

"We have to have a buy Ontario first approach," said Stiles. "Buy Ontario first, build Ontario, that is what is going to get us back on track. These are projects that will help us solve some of the other problems we have in the province. We have crumbling schools and infrastructure we need to be putting in place big projects, infrastructure projects, and housing projects. These are the promises we've made as New Democrats, and we're going to push the government on."

Stiles also spoke on the need to hold companies like Stellantis accountable after the company announced it would be moving product from its Brampton plant to Ohio.

"I want to make sure that the government is at the table, the workers are at the table with the company. The company should not be pulling out right now. Government, at all levels, put a lot of hope and money into those projects and we need to hold those companies to account," said Stiles.

The Ontario Legislature returns to Queen's Park on Monday for the first time since June 9, 2025.
