Windsor school evacuated after fire set in washroom

Windsor fire officials have confirmed that students and staff at an east-end school are safe after a fire on Thursday.

Windsor Fire and Rescue reported that crews responded to William G. Davis Public School on Rivard Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. on Thursday.

A fire was reported in a second-floor washroom. It was quickly extinguished, although it produced a significant amount of smoke.

An investigator was sent to the scene, and it was determined that the fire was intentionally set.

Damage was estimated at $100,000.

A suspect was released from Windsor police custody.

No one was injured, and students and staff were taken by bus to W.F. Herman Academy.

Parents will be able to pick up their children there at the regular dismissal time.
