Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie will present a bill in the Ontario legislature on Tuesday that will create two classes of provincial parks.
The Urban Class Park will improve access to nature-based programming in or near urban centres. The Adventure Class Park would offer outdoor recreational activities, like rock climbing, tree-top trekking, mountain biking, and the use of snowmobiles or all-terrain vehicles.
The legislation also would create future classes of parks through regulation.
"This legislation is about making Ontario's natural spaces more inclusive and dynamic," said Dowie. "Whether you're seeking peaceful green space close to home or thrilling outdoor adventures, Bill 26 opens new possibilities for how we experience our parks."
The bill, called the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Amendment Act, be presented at 6 p.m. for second reading. If it passes, the legislation will be referred to the Standing Committee on the Interior for further review and public input.
