Essex County OPP arrest four impaired drivers on weekend

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were busy on Essex County roads this past weekend.

Four people are facing impaired driving charges in incidents reported throughout the weekend. Two were in Lakeshore, one in Kingsville, and one in Tecumseh.

The first was just before noon on Friday in Lakeshore. Officers acted on a complaint about someone driving erratically on Middle Road near County Road 46.

A 32-year-old Wheatley man is charged with impaired driving, possession of stolen property, dangerous driving, and driving while suspended. The driver was held in bail court.

The second incident was reported during a traffic stop just before 1 a.m. on Saturday on Grace Road in Tecumseh.

A 36-year-old Tecumseh resident is charged with impaired driving, driving with excessive blood-alcohol concentration, and dangerous driving.

The third arrest took place at about 2 a.m. on Sunday on County Road 20 near McCain Sideroad in Kingsville. A vehicle had been driven into a ditch.

A 19-year-old Windsor man is charged with impaired driving and driving with excessive blood-alcohol concentration.

Finally, a collision was reported shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday on 11th Street in Lakeshore, with the driver allegedly not stopping.

A 38-year-old Belle River woman is charged with impaired driving, failure to comply with a demand, failure to remain at the scene of a collision, and driving a vehicle with no validated permit.

The latter three drivers will each have a chance to respond to the counts in a Windsor court in early to mid-November.

In all four cases, the licences were suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.

The charges have not been proven in court.
