The Leamington to Windsor transit service will be discontinued at the April 2026.
Municipality of Leamington councillors voted to end the service because of increasing costs and declining ridership.
"It's really unfortunate that this has been cut short. It's a service that is helpful to a lot of students. A lot people rely on it. They too can't carry on with the uncertainty of funding from year to year," said Councillor Paul Tiessen.
The service cost has increased 68 per cent since launching in 2019.
In 2024, the bus service had an average of 42 fares a day while, so far in 2025, there have been only 35 fares a day.
Earlier this month, county council denied funding of $130,000 for the service to continue.
The current contract with Transit Windsor ends on December 31, 2025. However, council voted to keep the service in place until the end of the post-secondary school year.
