Windsor police issues safety tips for Halloween

Local police services have some reminders to make sure everyone stays safe this Halloween.

Drivers are reminded to slow down, especially in residential areas and avoid distractions.

Police say parents should make sure their kids can be seen.

"If your child is going to be having a costume that has a lot more darker colours make sure they're even carrying a bag with some reflective tape, that their Halloween bag is very bright in colour or maybe colourful shoes or a colourful hat, something with lights on it," said Windsor Police Constable Bianca Jackson.

Parents with older children are also encouraged to set boundaries and review a route together.

"Go over the rules and maybe a route to make sure that if anything does happen you know exactly where they're going, where they should be located," said Jackson.

Finally, children are reminded to not eat anything until their parents can check it over. Any package that is opened or looks suspicious should be thrown out.

Homeowners are encouraged to light their walkways, remove obstacles and if you are using candles in a pumpkin keep it away from anything flammable.
