A 22-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a handgun was found in a vehicle during a traffic stop early Thursday morning.
A patrol officer stopped the vehicle at around 2:15 a.m. on Riverside Drive East near Aylmer Avenue, for speeding and not having rear lights. The officer soon learned that the driver's licence was suspended.
The vehicle was searched, and a loaded handgun was found behind the driver's seat, along with three live cartridges and two spent casings.
Also discovered was additional ammunition, including three 32-calibre rimfire cartridges and two spent 32-calibre cartridges.
The man was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, and transportation of a firearm in contravention of regulations.
The charges have not been proven in court.
