One man arrested after high speed crash causes power outage

Windsor police have charged an 18-year-old man with dangerous driving after a high-speed collision in the east end of the city.

On Friday night, officers responded to calls of a two-vehicle crash near Tecumseh Road East and Central Avenue.

Through dash-camera footage and a preliminary investigation, police say a grey Mercedes was speeding eastbound and weaving through traffic.

The car reportedly accelerated through an amber light and struck a sedan that was attempting to turn left.

The Mercedes veered off the roadway, crashing into a utility pole, which caused a transformer to explode.

No injuries were reported, but a temporary power outage occurred in the area due to the downed utility pole.

Police identified the driver, and he was arrested at the scene and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The 18-year-old was charged with stunt driving in May.
