ERCA issues shoreline statement for Lake Erie shoreline

High winds forecast for Windsor-Essex this week may affect the region's southern lakeshore.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has issued a shoreline conditions statement for the entire Lake Erie shoreline and for Pelee Island, effective between Wednesday morning and Thursday evening.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the region, with wind gusts of up to 90 kilometres per hour in the forecast.

"Lake levels are lower compared to previous years, but there is a concern for some damage with direct wave impact on shoreline structures and debris being thrown," read the statement from ERCA. "There remains some risk of flooding and accelerated nearshore erosion along the Lake Erie shoreline, including south Pelee Island, as a result of increased wave activity."

The statement is in effect until 4 p.m. on Thursday.
