Humane Society launches Cozy Cats Campaign

The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society wants residents to think of their four-legged friends this Giving Tuesday.

The shelter is looking to spruce up some rooms for new cats coming into the system.

Currently, the seven cat in take rooms have cement block walls, aging fluorescent lighting and no windows.

The Humane Society wants to transform the space with lighting that mimics natural light, perch hideaways in every kennel and monitors that play calming videos to comfort the cats.

“These upgrades will make a huge difference for the cats who come through our doors,” said Lynnette Bain, Executive Director. “A more soothing, enriched environment helps cats feel calmer, happier, and more at home while they wait for adoption.”

According to the Humane Society, the rooms house thousands of cats each year.

The planned upgrades are estimated to cost $12,500. To date, the shelter has raised $2,700 toward the campaign.
