A new commercial development is under construction in the Town of Essex.
The Essex Flex Space will have four buildings, each around 10,000 square feet. The first two buildings are expected to be complete by summer 2026.
Owner Paul Schincariol indicated all of the space within the buildings will be customizable to businesses' needs.
"Because the sizes are customizable, it opens the door to a lot of people," said Schincariol. "You could have a gym in there, you could have a restaurant, you could have a doctors office, an accounting firm. We're hoping to build a nice diverse community."
Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy said the development helps to fill a need for commercial space in the town.
"Having brand new space like this is going to attract people that want to start a business and invest in Essex and hopefully bring some innovative ideas to the area," said Bondy.
The new buildings will be located on South Talbot Road, just off Highway 3.
