Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have asked the public for help in identifying a suspect connected to an incident earlier this fall.
It happened on the afternoon of Sunday, September 7. Police say the male victim was walking near Fox and Russell Streets in Leamington when a vehicle, occupied by a male driver, a female passenger, and a baby in a car seat, pulled up alongside him.
The victim told police that the suspects offered him a new set of wireless earbuds, then asked the victim to enter the vehicle so they could pray together.
After the victim entered the vehicle, the male suspect asked for gas money, then allegedly snatched the victim's wallet and took out $300 in cash. A struggle ensued, but the victim was able to escape.
The vehicle is described as a light blue Volkswagen SUV, believed to be a 2024 Taos Highline.
The OPP has released a sketch of the male suspect.
He is described as White, heavyset, 35 to 40 years old, with short white hair, a tattoo on his right arm, and wearing several necklace chains.
Anyone with information on the man's identity should call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
