Hitchhiking on VIA Rail train lands man on police's naughty list

A man illegally hitching a ride on the outside of a VIA Rail train from Windsor to Chatham caused quite a locomotion commotion early Wednesday morning.

Chatham-Kent (CK) police said they got a call from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for assistance on Wednesday shortly before 6 a.m. because a London man was "illegally riding on the rear of the train."

The 46-year-old man was still on the outside of the rear engine car when the train arrived at the Chatham VIA Rail station on Queen Street, making for a very frosty greeting from police because of a wintry mix of precipitation and strong wind early Wednesday morning.

He was arrested and charged with break and enter.
