City to distribute Ontario Works cheques for January

The City of Windsor is ready to help those receiving Ontario Works (OW) benefits collect their payments for the new year.

Despite a tentative agreement being reached between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. the City has provided a contingency plan for distributing income support cheques and reloadable payment cards (RPCs) for January.

Direct deposit payments are automatic through banking institutions and will not be affected. For those who pick up their direct deposit statements with a bus pass, those statements will continue to be held for pickup.

For those who physically pick up their cheques, they will be available at 400 City Hall Square East, Suite 102.

Pickups will be on New Year's Eve Wednesday, and on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"Recipients must bring two pieces of government-issued identification, one of which must have a photo," read a release from the City of Windsor. "Individuals cannot pick up cheques or RPCs on behalf of another individual. Before proceeding to the cheque distribution location, please call 1-800-808-2268 to ensure your cheque has been printed and is ready for pickup. Status of payment can also be viewed on the MyBenefits app."

For those living in the county, pickups will be available at the office on 33 Princess Street in Leamington, on the same two days, but from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
