Suspect violates bail within one hour of release

Windsor police have re-arrested a man who allegedly cut off his ankle monitor soon after being released on bail.

The 39-year-old man was released on Christmas Eve after being charged with theft under $5,000, along with multiple counts each of motor vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. He was ordered to stay with his surety under house arrest and wear an electronic monitor.

However, police say the man cut the monitor off within an hour of being released and fleeing the house.

On Monday, officers from the Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Unit tried to arrest the man on St. Luke Road near Reginald Street. The man escaped from a second-floor window, but was found a few minutes later hiding under a nearby porch.

Two counts of mischief under $5,000 and two counts of failure to comply with a release order have been added to the suspect's sheet.

The charges have not been proven in court.
