Province grants Tecumseh Fire over $34K for firefighter equipment

Tecumseh Fire and Rescue Services is receiving $34,893 from the Ontario government to pay for new equipment.

The funding, from the Fire Protection Grant, will purchase nine structural firefighting gear sets, also known as bunker sets. Those include jackets, pants, boots, helmets, face covers, masks, and gloves.

"This year's grant will be used to purchase a second set of bunker gear for a number of our firefighters," said Fire Chief Wade Bondy. "The equipment supports our ongoing priority to reduce cancer risks on the front lines with gear that provides protection for firefighters."

Eligible projects for the funding include buying personal protective gear to enhance municipal cancer prevention initiatives, equipment and supplies to respond to lithium-ion battery incidents, and minor infrastructure upgrades.

"Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day to keep our community safe, and it's essential that they have the equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively," said Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie. "This Fire Protection Grant investment will help equip Tecumseh Fire and Rescue Services with modern, reliable protective gear, enhancing firefighter safety during emergencies."

The grant program will support all 380 municipal fire services in the province, keeping about 33,000 firefighters safe.

"Firefighters are always there when we need them, running towards danger to protect our homes and our communities," said Solicitor General Michael Kerzner. "That is why we're doubling this year's Fire Protection Grant, giving even more firefighters across the province the tools they need to stay safe and effectively respond to life-threatening emergencies."
