Caesars Windsor Cares supports new Memory Cafe

The Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County expanded its Memory Cafe programming thanks to continued donations from the Caesars Windsor Cares.

The $15,000 donation will help the society host a monthly meeting in South Windsor for people with dementia and their caregivers.

"It really is a safe place for people living with dementia or supporting someone with dementia to come and just have some interaction," said Rosemary Fiss, Director of Programs with the Alzheimer's Society of Windsor Essex County. "We'll put the coffee on, have some snacks, we might have an activity or a guest speaker."

Fiss said there are over 9,000 residents in Windsor and Essex County with a dementia.

"They are an integral part of our community as well, so having funding like this allows people to hear that they haven't been forgotten, they're not alone. We have programs and services that we want to offer them to allow them that place of being involved," said Fiss.

The society also hosts regular Memory Cafes in Tecumseh, Kingsville and at the Ojibway Nature Centre.
