Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are urging drivers to take care in securing their loads after a traffic stop last week in Tecumseh.
A patrol officer stopped a vehicle on Tecumseh Road East on Thursday, January 15. A trailer being pulled by the vehicle was loaded with shopping carts, which appeared to be overflowing.
The driver was ticketed for failure to secure a load and for failure to carry an insurance card.
Police are using this stop to inform residents about the importance of carrying loads safely, especially in winter driving conditions.
"Unsecured or shifting loads put drivers, passengers, and all road users at serious risk," read a social media post from the OPP. "A secure load isn’t just good practice, it’s the law."
The OPP has recommended using and double-checking tie-downs for those who must pull a trailer, ensuring safe weight distribution, and rechecking loads during the trip.
