City expands shelter system

The City of Windsor has added 24 shelter beds at emergency shelters as the community continues to face extreme cold temperatures.

That brings the total number of beds across five shelters to 221 beds and rooms for men, women, couples, and families.

There are also 100 overnight drop-in spaces to accommodate people who cannot access a bed.

The city continues to monitor emergency shelter data and will make further adjustments as needed.

Anyone concerned about someone who is living outdoors during extreme cold days should call 911 immediately.

Emergency shelter beds are available at the Welcome Centre Shelter for Women, the Downtown Mission, the Salvation Army, the Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H4), and the Essex County Homelessness Hub (ECH2) and Shelter Program.
