Yellow alerts for cold, and now snow squalls in Windsor-Essex

In addition to a yellow alert for cold, Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a second yellow alert, this one warning of snow squalls in Windsor, Essex County, and Leamington.

It warns that travel could be hazardous at times on Tuesday afternoon, as the region gets another 5 cm of snow.

"Periods of brief but intense snowfall are expected to develop," said an alert. "Under the snow squall, visibility will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow."

It said a cold front is pushing through the region, and the snow squalls could develop ahead of the front. While squalls will be short-lived, intense snowfall and gusty winds could cause visibility to drop to near zero in some areas.
