The Town of Essex has eight new publicly accessible electric vehicle charging stations.
The Level 2 EV charges are located at Harrow Arena and the Heritage Gardens Park in downtown Essex.
“These new charging stations mark an important step in building a more sustainable future for our community. As more residents and visitors transition to electric vehicles, this investment ensures our municipality is ready to support that shift and contribute to a cleaner environment for generations to come,” said Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy.
The purchase and installation of the chargers were fully funded by Aviva Canada and Earth Day Canada.
"When the Harrow ones were first opened, on the first day we had people tweeting about having the chargers there and how great it was," said David McBeth, Manager of Capital Works. 'We haven't really delved into the numbers about how much usage we've had to date but we do have to do reporting as part of the grant for the next three years."
Users will pay a flat rate of $3 an hour to use the chargers.
