The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society is celebrating 100 years in the community with the launch of a $100,000 fundraising campaign.
"I think it means a lot to the staff to know that they are part of something bigger than what we do every day. To know that there were so many people who walked before us that had dreams, that had a vision for what a humane community could look like," said Lynnette Bain, Executive Director.
Several events are planned throughout the year to celebrate the milestone and support the fundraising campaign, including The Great Catsby gala in April, and a 100-year open house celebration in September.
The society hopes to purchase two new animal rescue and relief vehicles with the funds.
"The bulk of our revenue comes from donations and trying to keep our programs going, the medical costs, so really to come up with the money for two new vehicles is a challenge," said Bain.
To date, the society has raised $37,706 toward its campaign.
