The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) has recognized community efforts to immunize all local schoolchildren.
The health unit released a progress report on immunization efforts on Tuesday morning, stating that 98.7 per cent of kindergarten to Grade 8 students in Windsor-Essex are compliant with the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA).
"This achievement reflects the strong [Windsor-Essex County] community dedication to keeping students protected from vaccine-preventable diseases," read the report from the health unit.
The health unit also announced that as of Tuesday morning, 588 K-8 students are suspended from school due to incomplete immunization records or missing shots.
"Elementary students suspended [Tuesday] may return to school once they have received required missing immunizations and/or missing immunization records are provided to the WECHU," read the media release.
Parents should contact their healthcare provider to obtain any missing records and receive any missing immunizations. Families can ask their healthcare provider to forward any records to the health unit, or parents may submit them online, with proof of immunization attached.
The health unit is also offering immunization clinics at its Windsor and Leamington offices. You may book an appointment online.
Separately, parents of secondary school students are reminded that the deadline to submit records is Friday, March 27, at 6 p.m. Students in grades 9 through 12 with missing records or shots, or without a valid exemption, may be suspended starting Tuesday, March 31.
