Windsor proclaims Wednesday "Hat Day"

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens has officially proclaimed Wednesday "Hat Day" in the city in honour of the 17th Annual Hats On for Healthcare fundraiser.

Throughout March, Windsor residents are encouraged to wear their craziest hats to raise money for the fundraiser, which has set a goal of raising $100,000 this year.

Highlights of this year's campaign include Hockey Helps Hats On, which is a partnership between the Windsor Spitfires, youth teams, and schools. They'll compete with Spitfires Co-Captains to see who can raise the most money.

Your Gift, Your Choice allows donors to direct their donations to any of the 40 hospital programs at Windsor Regional Hospital.

"Hats On For Healthcare is a testament to the incredible spirit of Windsor-Essex," said Manager of Philanthropy at the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation, Stacey MacDonald. "Whether it's a classroom of students or a corporate office, every hat worn and every dollar donated stays right here to help our neighbours, friends and families."

Contributions can be made online or by calling 519-985-2656. Participants are encouraged to post their "Hat Day" photos on social media using the hashtag #HatsOnForHealthcare.

The campaign will wrap up on April 16 with a Hatsquerade Happy Hour finale at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts.

Since the campaign started 17 years ago, it has raised over $700,000 to buy life-saving medical equipment.
