We now know how much it'll cost to cross the Gordie Howe International Bridge when it opens.
Officials with Bridging North America announced the toll fee structure today and launched a new toll discount program called Breakaway.
"Announcing our toll rates and launching Breakaway represents a significant step in preparing to open the Gordie Howe International Bridge to traffic," said Interim CEO and Chief Legal Officer at the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority, Chuck Andary. "We've established a customer-focused toll program that helps travellers and businesses move goods, grow businesses, and cross the border toward their destination with flexibility and convenience."
Vehicles with a Breakaway tag will get a 25 per cent discount on the regular toll of $8 CAD or $5.75 USD per crossing. With the discount, those drivers will pay $6 CAD or $4.35 USD.
Commercial trucks, oversized vehicles, and larger passenger vehicles will pay $12 CAD or $8.75 USD per axle. Under the Breakaway program, the toll will be $9.60 CAD or $6.90 USD.
Breakaway is exclusively for business accounts. They can sign up and prepare their fleets for a seamless experience once the bridge opens.
The bridge is expected to open this spring, providing a third Windsor-to-Detroit crossing.
