Students in Leamington took part in a province-wide walk-out Wednesday to protest changes to OSAP services.
Around 50 students walked out of class and braved the rain to bring awareness to changes proposed by the provincial government.
"We are the next generation and I think that anybody who is out in the community today is going to see a group of teenagers who are very passionate about what we want. We want people to further their education and we want that to be affordable for people who are in less fortunate circumstances," said Serenity Kroeker, student at Leamington District Secondary School.
Similar walkouts occurred at schools throughout the region including F.J. Brennan, St. Anne's and Belle River District High School.
"I want people to see this and know that as students we're not going to allow ourselves to be silenced. We are going to speak up when there is something wrong in this community," said Kroeker.
Under the new OSAP system, students will receive a maximum of 25 per cent of their OSAP funding as grants and the remaining funding will be considered loans.
The proposed change came at the same time the Ford government lifted the tuition freeze, allowing allow publicly assisted colleges and universities to raise tuition by up to 2 per cent per year for three years.
