Whether you're Irish or Irish-at-heart for the day, St. Patrick's Day is all about fun, socializing, and joy.
Every year, the holiday gathers people for music, dancing, and of course, partying.
Despite the chilly weather, people in Windsor Tuesday braved the cold as they waited outside O'Maggio's Kildare House, an Irish pub located in the city's historic Olde Walkerville neighbourhood.
St. Patrick's Day commemorates the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland who introduced Christianity to the country in the fifth century.
The holiday grew from a quiet religious day to a celebration of Irish culture through parades, green attire, and festivities.
"My favourite part about St. Patrick's Day is to get drunk with my friends," said a young woman, dressed in green and shamrock motifs.
Although partying seemed to be an essential aspect, what mattered most was being with a community to celebrate the day.
"Just drinking all day and having fun. That's what it's all about," said another partygoer.
Windsor Police advised those who participated Tuesday to plan ahead and never drive under the influence. They indicated they would have an increased police presence on the roads.
