Update: SIU investigating fatal police shooting

A 40-year-old man has died following a shooting involving the Windsor Police Service.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, the man armed with a knife was alleged to be involved in a robbery at a Sandwich Street convenience store.

Officers tracked the suspect to the area of Rankin Avenue and Wyandotte Street West.

Multiple police officers were involved in the interaction. A taser was deployed before two officers discharged their firearms.

The SIU reports he was taken to the hospital and pronounced deceased at 9:35 p.m.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators from the SIU have been assigned to the case.
