Suspect suffers life-threatening injuries in police shooting

Windsor Police have closed Ranking Avenue between Wyandotte Street West and University Avenue after a shooting involving Windsor Police.

Police say they were called to investigate a robbery on Sandwich Street around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officers tracked the suspect to Rankin Avenue where they found him armed with a knife.

After the shooting, the suspect was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit has been notified and is expected to invoke its mandate. The SIU investigates whenever there is a death, serious injury, or sexual assault involving police officers.
