Windsor officer charged after bullet hits neighbour's home

A Windsor police officer has been charged with careless use of a firearm after a LaSalle resident found bullet holes in their wall.

LaSalle Police report they were called to a home just after 9 a.m. Monday to investigate a report of property damage.

Officers learned that the homeowners found holes in the wall of their semi-detached house. LaSalle police said investigators determined that a single round from a service-issued firearm was discharged inside the neighbouring home. The bullet passed through a shared interior wall and a second wall within the complainant's residence.

Two people were in the home at the time. No one was injured.

The neighbouring home belonged to Windsor Police Constable Louis George, who has been a member of the Windsor Police Service since 2009. He has been reassigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the criminal case. A misconduct investigation will follow the conclusion of the criminal proceedings.

No further information will be provided by the Windsor Police Service or LaSalle Police Service as the matter is before the courts.
