Windsor/Essex County Humane Society receives $35K grant

The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society (WECHS) has received a $35,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to strengthen collaboration with PetSmart and expand adoption opportunities for animals in need.

The funding will support ongoing pet adoption visibility, resources, and engagement in the region.

"We can expand our efforts to connect even more adoptable animals with caring families," said Lynette Bain, Executive Director of the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society, in a statement.

Key initiatives supported in the grant include WECHS adoptable cats being in the PetSmart Dougall throughout the entire year, participation in three National Adoption Weeks to bring visibility to available animals and encourage pet ownership, as well as adoptable dogs being featured in the store every month.

"Making room in your heart and home for a pet opens the door for another pet to enter the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society, so you're really saving two lives," said Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities of Canada, in a statement.

The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society encourages the community to visit PetSmart Dougall during the March National Adoption Week (March 23 to 29) and the Adopt Joy event on March 28.
