St. John Ambulance honoured multiple Windsor Police officers for their work in saving a life.
Each of the officers used life-saving skills like CPR to assist an individual before emergency medical support could arrive on the scene.
In one scenario, four police constables saved a man from drowning in the Detroit River.
Constable Abraham Nyamadi said it wasn't a simple rescue because of where the man entered the water.
"Jumping into the water would have created a scenario where two people had to be rescued," said Nyamadi. "We actually had to utilize our strength and lower one of us into the water to grab onto the individual and then collectively pull him out."
Constable Ryan Coughlin credits their problem-solving skills and team work.
"You don't just have the guy in the water that you're trying to save but you're also making sure you don't drop one of your own into the water and creating that second emergency," said Coughlin. "That's what it was, we're just trying to make sure everyone was safe."
After getting the individual out of the water, the officers performed CPR and carried him to where EMS could take over.
Constable Mark Turkalj and Constable Jeff Theriault were also honoured in this rescue.
