Retail businesses in LaSalle will now have the option of opening on most statutory holidays.
Town council passed a municipal-wide exemption to the Retail Business Holidays Act at its meeting on Tuesday night.
Previously, individual retail locations applied for exemptions on a case-by-case basis.
"I do think it creates a fairness throughout the municipality. Some smaller businesses may not have known that they could even apply for this in the past or thought that the process was too cumbersome, so I do think this is a great idea," said Mayor Crystal Meloche.
The only holiday businesses will not be able to open on is Christmas day.
