Windsor police have urged the driver of a second vehicle involved in a fatal pedestrian crash to come forward.
According to police, a 65-year-old woman was crossing the street, mid-block, in the area of Tecumseh Road East and Lincoln Road around 10 p.m. Wednesday. An investigation determined the woman was struck by an oncoming vehicle, which propelled her into the opposite lane, where she was struck by a second vehicle.
The driver of the first vehicle stayed on the scene, but the second driver took off.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Police believe the second vehicle is a dark-coloured SUV with a rear window spoiler or wing that was travelling eastbound on Tecumseh East.
"Investigators recognize that this was a traumatic and fast-moving event, and it is possible the driver did not immediately realize what had occurred," read a social media post from Windsor police. "However, under Ontario law, any driver involved in a collision must remain at the scene."
Police are appealing to the driver to come in and speak with them.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information or video footage is asked to contact the Windsor Police Service Traffic Enforcement Unit at (519) 255-6700, extension 7032.
