Tecumseh receiving $176K to support transit

Tecumseh is receiving provincial gas tax funding to improve transit access.

Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie announced on Friday that the Town is receiving $176,470 to support Tecumseh Transit. It's the Town's share of Ontario's 2025-26 Gas Tax program.

"This support will enhance connectivity, improve access to essential local services, and make it easier for residents to travel safely and efficiently throughout Tecumseh's borders and beyond," said Dowie.

Mayor Gary McNamara said the funding is ideal as residents continue to grapple with high gas prices.

"This funding will be well spent on keeping our transit system operating effectively, which includes improving and maintaining the Town’s electric bus fleet to ensure Tecumseh residents have eco-friendly, accessible, and reliable transportation well into the future," said McNamara. "These investments further the Town’s goals of reducing our carbon footprint and reliance on non-renewable energy sources."

The Town introduced three electric buses to its fleet in June 2025, replacing the diesel-powered ones that were noisier and more costly to maintain.

Tecumseh is one of 107 municipalities across Ontario to receive funding through the Gas Tax program.
