A new jet ski rental business will be operating out of Colchester Harbour this summer.
Jet Wave Inc. was granted a one year lease agreement from the Town of Essex despite some safety concerns from councillors and harbour users.
"I believe that this will be beneficial to some of our businesses, our restaurants, our bar, and the Grove. I can see that they could take some spin-off from this. I can imagine some groups of people renting rooms in order to make this ski-do experience part of a weekend," said Councillor Kim Verbeek.
Owner of the rental company, Haider Al-Twaini, assured staff that all renters will be required to go through a safety briefing and will have all the proper safety equipment.
The jet skis will also be equipped with GPS tracking, emergency shut-off capabilities, and the ability to shut off the engine remotely if the jet-skis go somewhere they are not supposed to.
Bookings will be taken through an online booking system between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. There will be three units available for rent.
