Windsor police lay charges for break-in and car theft

Windsor police arrested and charged a man who allegedly broke into a house and then returned days later to steal the homeowner's vehicle.

Police report a home on University Avenue East was broken into on April 16. Several items were stolen, including a spare key to the homeowner's vehicle.

Just before 8 a.m. on April 24, a man with his face hidden by a black bandana stole the vehicle using the stolen key.

Investigators say they found the vehicle in an alley behind Bruce Avenue around an hour later.

A suspect was identified and arrested later that day on Ouellette Avenue.

The 34-year-old was charged with possession of stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle, wearing a disguise with intent, operation while prohibited and breach of probation.
