Windsor residents in Wards 8, 9, and 10 should get ready for road closures, construction signs, and detours as the city embarks on $8.9 million worth of road projects this construction season.
The projects include asphalt milling and paving, sidewalk reconstruction, and active transportation infrastructure.
"It's going to facilitate movement throughout the entire region. Take the Rhodes Drive project, for example, that's a major employment centre and just improving the transportation network, including the active transportation network, I think that's going to be a huge benefit for the residents that live and work in that part of the city," said Councillor Kieran McKenzie.
That project is expected to get started on June 1 and will be wrapped up in around a month.
Many projects, like work on Labelle Street and Queen Elizabeth Drive, won't start until after school gets out and should be done before kids return to school in September.
"The Queen Elizabeth road project is important. There's two schools nearby, the Transit Windsor bus route goes down there, it's one of the ways, a collector road, to get out of Fontainebleau to get to Jefferson Street to move east to get to the Expressway so it gets a l lot of traffic," said Councillor Gary Kaschak.
Other projects, like the asphalt milling and paving and concrete panel repairs on Dominion Boulevard, won't get underway until August.
"Dominion is going to get done from just north of the Expressway, past Labelle, all the way down to Grand Marais. That kind of finishes off the project because we've done two other projects to get that whole arterial road in good shape," said Councillor Jim Morrison.
All of the projects were included in the city's capital budget in 2026. A total of $36.6 million is being invested in roads in 2026.
