Three charged in series of distraction thefts

Windsor police have charged three people in connection with a series of distraction thefts between March and May.

During that time, police received multiple reports of suspects approaching victims in parking lots, engaging them in conversations, and using physical contact to distract them and steal their jewelry.

On May 6, police received a report that three people approached a woman in a parking lot in Amherstburg and engaged her in conversation before allegedly stealing her jewelry.

Less than an hour later, police received a similar report in a parking lot on Dougall Avenue. The suspects allegedly replaced a victim's real jewelry with costume pieces before taking off in a vehicle.

Police tracked the vehicle down near Crawford Avenue and Tecumseh Road and took three suspects into custody.

The three individuals are facing multiple charges of theft, fraud and possession of stolen property.
