Windsor Aquatic Club co-hosting major swim meet this month

Nearly 750 competitive swimmers will be heading to Windsor later this month to compete in the 2026 Speedo Canadian Masters Swimming Championships.

The tournament, co-hosted by Swimming Canada and the Windsor Aquatic Club, is projected to generate over $1-million of economic spinoff in the community.

"Windsor has a world-class facility in the [Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre] and a community that knows how to host. We're proud to welcome Masters swimmers from coast to coast — and from across the border — to compete in one of Canada's great border cities," said Sherry Gibson, National Meet Director, Windsor Aquatic Club.

The event will draw clubs from across the country, Michigan and even Great Britain. Nearly 84 per cent of participants are travelling from outside the Windsor-Essex region and will need hotel rooms throughout the duration of the tournament.

Masters swimmers are adults aged 18 and older who compete in age-group categories.

"This isn't just a swim meet, it's 748 passionate, experienced athletes who have come a long way to compete, celebrate, and explore Windsor. They're exactly the kind of visitor that makes a real difference to local businesses," said Ben Balkwill, National Meet Referee.

The competition will take place from May 22 to May 24 across six timed-finals sessions over three days at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre's twin 25-metre competition pools.
