The Windsor Police Service Marine Unit safely rescued two boaters after their vessel capsized near Peche Island.
At 3:40 p.m. on May 9, officers heard people yelling that a boat had overturned in the water near the island. The officers located the capsized and partially submerged vessel south of the island.
A man and a woman, both in their 50s, were found in the water clinging to the boat.
Police were able to pull both individuals from the water safely. The pair suffered minor injuries and were treated by EMS at the scene.
Officers also secured the overturned vessel and safely towed it back to shore.
Police thank the community members who quickly reported the emergency. Their quick action and attention helped officers get to the scene right away.
Windsor police remind boaters that conditions on the water can change quickly. Strong winds, rough waves, and powerful currents can create dangerous situations, even for experienced boaters.
