Two charged after Windsor police stop drug transaction

Windsor police officers were in the right place at the right time, resulting in two people facing drug trafficking charges.

Members of the City Centre Patrol Unit were patrolling in the downtown core at around 10 a.m. on Sunday, when they spotted people approaching a vehicle parked in the area of Ouellette Avenue and Elliott Street. The people briefly spoke with the two people inside the car, then left.

Police reported that one of the suspects soon got out, approached several other people, and made exchanges that appeared suspicious. The officers moved in and arrested the pair.

A search of the vehicle uncovered 67 suspected hydromorphone pills, 79 additional suspected narcotic pills, 9.1 grams of packaged cannabis, $7,460 in cash, and two cell phones.

A 57-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, who can't be identified under the Ontario Youth Criminal Justice Act, were each charged with possession of a Schedule I substance with intent to sell.

The charges have not been proven in court.
