Bird Canada hopes to resume e-scooter, e-bike service within ten days

Either next week or the week after, residents in Windsor will once again be able to rent a Bird Canada e-bike or e-scooter.

The service was suspended last month when Bird Canada's contract with the City of Windsor expired.

Since then, Bird Canada General Manager Patrick Graham said the two sides have been working out the details.

"We're just waiting for the final amendment to come from the city confirming some of the final changes around the parking plan," said Graham. "We're just waiting for them to give us the green light, and we're ready to go, but hopefully in the next seven to ten days."

Bird Canada has offered the service in Windsor for five years now, and Graham said the company heard from many residents when it announced it was suspending service.

"Having this pause helps you realize how essential a service it is," said Graham. "We've heard from so many residents saying this is something they rely on in the summer months to get them to work, get them to school. It's a quicker and more convenient option than public transit or a cheaper option than Uber."

There will be two big changes to the program this year. Graham said another 200 e-bikes will be available to residents, and the service is moving to a designated parking model.

"We're really excited to have agreed to a new contract, and we'll be back soon," added Graham.
