New funding for three area clinics will help 4,000 Essex County residents access primary health care.
The Harrow Health Centre Family Health Team, the Lakeshore Community Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic, and the Amherstburg Family Health Team received $1.4 million to hire more physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health care professionals to the region.
"This is very much a collaborative proposal. We're very much partners with Amherstburg and Harrow and we're working on that 4,000 collaboratively. Each of us has been given funding to expand however we needed within our community," said Sharon Bevington, administrative executive director at the Lakeshore Community Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic.
In addition to expanding primary care, the clinics in Amherstburg and Harrow will also be hiring a physiotherapist.
"We're extremely excited about the collaboration with the Amherstburg Family Health Team with the new physio program. A physiotherapist will be shared and provide services at both locations," said Andrew Atkins, executive director at the Harrow Health Centre Family Health Team.
The clinics aim to have 4,000 more people connected to a primary health care provider in three years.
The partnership of health teams was funded through the latest call for proposals under the Primary Care Action Plan.
