The nomination period for the 2026 municipal election is over two weeks old, but there are candidates expressing interest in running.
As of Friday evening, there were six people who had filed to run for Windsor City Council. In addition, four people are running for school trustee.
There are no candidates who have filed to run for mayor. Incumbent Drew Dilkens has not indicated whether or not he will run for a fourth term.
In Ward 3, Rabia Kirma is running, with Renaldo Agostino as the incumbent.
In Ward 4, the seat currently held by Mark McKenzie, Rasha Zaid is the sole candidate so far.
There are two candidates currently running in Ward 5, Natasha Elizabeth Feghali and Shane Potvin. The incumbent is Ed Sleiman.
Owen Smith is the only candidate for the Ward 6 seat currently occupied by Jo-Ann Gignac.
In Ward 10, where Jim Morrison is the incumbent, Adam Ibrahim is running.
In the race for trustee at the Greater Essex County District School Board, only one candidate has submitted their paperwork. Malini Ondrovcik is a candidate for Windsor Wards 1, 2, and 9.
Running for Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board trustee are two candidates so far. Jason Lazarus has filed to run for Windsor Wards 5 and 8. Kim Bouchard is running in Windsor Wards 6 and 7.
For the only Windsor-Essex seat with the French public school board, CS Viamonde, incumbent Emmanuelle Richez is the only competitor so far.
The nomination period closes at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 21.
The election is on Monday, October 26.
