An expansion at LaSalle's Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex?

LaSalle's Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex may be undergoing an expansion soon.

The town is considering adding a double gymnasium, a dedicated fitness/aerobic room, expanded fitness areas, a senior centre, more office space, and a longer indoor walking track.

It said the expansion would allow for enhanced programming and the introduction of new activities at the complex.

"High-level conceptual expansion plans are being shared with the public and will be refined through public consultation," said Deputy CAO Peter Marra. "By working through these steps, the town will be better positioned to apply for provincial grant funding with a project that is closer to shovel-ready."

The town rationalizes the expansion, calling it "critical to sustain and grow community sport and recreation as LaSalle's population grows."

It will take about a year to consult with stakeholders and $250,000 to pay for drawings, architectural fees, engineering designs, and geo-technical reports. The money will come out of the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Reserve.

It's estimated that the need to expand will grow in the next two to four years.

Administration is expected to bring a detailed report, including a financial plan, to council in 2027.

There's an open house for the public to attend on Monday, June 15, at the Vollmer Complex from 10 a.m. to noon, and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Town staff will also be available at the LaSalle Night Market at the LaSalle Civic Centre on Sunday, June 28, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Vollmer opened in 2008 and now sees about one million visits a year.
