Suspect wanted for alleged theft in Essex

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have asked the public for help in identifying a man who allegedly stole an item being offered for sale.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday, a man appeared at an apartment complex in Essex to meet someone and complete the sale of an item offered on a social media platform.

Police say the victim gave the item to the suspect, who suddenly ran off without paying for it. The victim was not hurt.

The suspect is described as a White male, wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie.

"The OPP is committed to community safety and reminds the public to meet in designated 'Internet Purchase Exchange Zones', often found in municipal parking lots or visitor parking spaces in close proximity to OPP detachments or other police services," said OPP Constable Stephanie Caron.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or may know who the suspect is should call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
