Police investigating arson in Windsor's Via Italia

Windsor police officers are investigating a suspicious fire in Via Italia.

Police say emergency crews were called to the scene of a fire on Erie Street near Mercer Street around 10 p.m. Monday.

Officers found two empty gas cans near the property, which houses several businesses. An accelerant was also found inside the building.

Windsor police ask residents and business owners in the area to review any surveillance or dashcam footage captured between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. for evidence that may assist investigators.

A damage estimate has not been determined.

The WindsorEats Food Hall, which is attached to the building where the fire originated, said there was some smoke damage to their facility.

The food hall was scheduled to host the Mexican Village for Carrousel of the Nations. It's still unclear if the blaze will affect the event.
